Man who wrote defamatory post on Aamir Khan 's show traced to Kerala
In a major breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of the city crime branch managed to trace the person who had allegedly written a defamatory post that is said to have led to the smear campaign on social networking sites against actor Aamir Khan and his show Satyamev Jayate.
The 48-year-old actor had lodged a complaint with the crime branch on March 8. The suspect is a 54-year-old retired government official and a resident of Kozhikode, said police sources.
"Since we could not get any clue from WhatsApp, on which the post was being circulated, we went through various blogs written on the issue and managed to trace the original author of the post through the Internet Protocol address," said a crime branch officer.
He added that after finding out who and where the author was, a police team was sent to Kerala to record his statement. "The author confessed to having written the post in 2010-11. He claimed that he had done some research on the issue before posting it online. However, he now realises that his research was wrong and regrets having written the post," said the officer.
The police are yet to make any arrests in the case. Sources said someone must have copy-pasted the post and then circulated it on WhatsApp.
After the post had gone viral on social networking sites, Khan had reacted on the issue through Facebook. "False and malicious messages are circulating through various electronic media including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks alleging that donations are being sought in my television program Satyamev Jayate Season 2, in relation to an entity which claims to be working in the field of Masjid Construction Assistance and placement assistance for Islamic youngsters," Khan had said.
Khan had also said that Satyamev Jayate Season 1 was associated with Humanity Trust, Hanspukur, West Bengal, which is a charitable hospital run by Dr Ajoy Mistry and his mother Subhashini Mistry. "All donations are used for deserving and secular causes, contrary to the content of the highly mischievous/malicious insinuations in the messages, being circulated by vested and unscrupulous interests," Khan had said.
